Gilgit, Pakistan, 1977 | In November 1977 I visited the town of Gilgit in Pakistani Kashmir. Further travel towards the Hunza valley and the Karakoram Highway [into China] was closed then, and this was as far as I could go. During the week I spent in the area I saw no other Western tourists.
